What is Black Seed Oil? Benefits & More!

Black seed oil is extracted from the seeds of a plant called Nigella Sativa. Additionally, it goes by the name black cumin or black caraway. The plant is native to eastern Europe and southwest Asia. It has been grown and used for centuries as a spice and for herbal medicine. Today, we wanted to highlight a few of the many black seed oil benefits

Supports Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

Unhealthy glucose levels in the body can lead to a variety of health concerns. According to the CDC, over thirty four million people in America struggle with unstable blood sugar levels.* A healthy diet and targeted supplementation may help promote healthy glucose levels.

Firstly, black seed oil has been studied for its healthy glucose level supportive properties. An important component of the extracted oil is thymoquinone. This phytochemical compound is touted for its potent antioxidant benefits and immune boosting properties. Supplementation may support healthy insulin production.

Supports Healthy Cholesterol Levels

The seeds feature high levels of fatty acids that may help maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Black seed oil contains beta-sitosterol, a substance found in plants. Beta-sitosterols are also known as phytosterols, which are plant compounds found in plant cell membranes. They are similar in structure to cholesterol. Therefore, it may support healthy cholesterol absorption levels in the body.

Supports Skin & Hair Health

Additionally, black seed oil may boost overall skin and hair health. Apply directly to the hair or affected skin areas, or take internally. The oil is rich in amino acids, which help moisturize the hair and skin. Black seed oil is used traditionally to help extreme dryness of the skin.

Furthermore, the active compounds of the oil may support healthy inflammation levels. Rub onto a dry patch of skin or massage a small amount into lackluster hair! It can also be diluted into a carrier oil like coconut or almond to boost the skin-loving benefits.

Supports Liver Health

The liver is the largest solid organ.  It performs hundreds of vital functions for the body. In particular, removing toxins from blood and producing bile in the body. The more unhealthy of a lifestyle we follow, the harder the liver has to work. Optimal liver health benefits the body in a myriad of ways.

Black seed oil may promote a healthy liver and recovery due to its potent phytochemicals in the oil. Take in the morning or evening in either liquid or capsule form. Mix into a smoothie or add a few drops to tea for easier consumption!

Hi Jan, Typically, black seed oil has a shelf life of 2 years. It is best stored in a dark container, away from heat and light sources.
